She died peacefully on February 10, 2006 in Fair Oaks, CA after a long illness. She is survived by her daughter, Carma Read of Placerville, CA, her granddaughter, Sharyl Andreatta of Rancho Murieta, CA, and her sister Elizabeth Weitzel of Ft. Collins, CO, as well as five great- grandchildren. She was the widow of Max E. Read having been married49 years. She later remarried and was widowed again after almost 16years of marriage to Enoch Strahan.Rachel was a long-time resident of Bakersfield where she and Max raised their granddaughter, Sharyl, from infancy. Also during that time, she managed Max's land leveling business. At the age of 53, sheearned her Bachelor's degree from Fresno State College and, after obtaining her teaching credential, she taught for many years in the Lamont School district. During her years of retirement, Rachel and Enoch enjoyed gambling trips to Laughlin, NVwhere she loved to play the slot machines. Rachel was a long-standing member of St. Mark's Methodist Church in Oildale where she taught adult Sunday school for many years. In addition, she was an active member of the Wesleyan Guild where she hadnumerous friends. Rachel loved her family, her friends, her church, and her cat, "Cat". She is dearly missed. At her request, no services will be held. She will be cremated at Mt. Vernon Mortuary in Fair Oaks, CA. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 2/19/2006.
