A private graveside will be held at the Shafter Cemetery. Ada was born in what is now downtown Los Angeles California. She went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2005. As a child, Adas family moved often, and she lived in many small towns in Southern California, before they finally settled in Shafter, California in 1924. She and her sister Birdie and her brother Don all attended Rio Bravo School. It was there that she met Pete Bergen, whom she was to marry in 1931. Ada graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1931. After their marriage, Pete and Ada made their home on farms in the Shafter area and raised their family there. While Pete served on the Rio Bravo School board, Ada was president of the Rio Bravo PTA, and later served as President of the Shafter High School PTA. She also taught Sunday school at the Congregational church of Shafter. Pete and Ada purchased a motel in Pismo Beach in 1953, where they resided for about two years. After their children were married, they moved back to the Bakersfield area. Ada became an insurance adjuster and worked for many years in Bakersfield for Kern Insurance associates, while Pete was a building inspector. She also was employed by Hofman Insurance, Somers Insurance and Teneco. While residing in Bakersfield, Ada joined the Heritage Bible Church before she moved back to Shafter upon her retirement. She was also a member of the Shafter Womens Club. Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Pete in 1969, her sister, Birdie, and brothers, Donald and Elbert, and her granddaughter, Julie Nelson Lahmeyer. Ada is survived by her three children, Walter Bergen and his wife Judith, Deanna Nelson and her husband Dave, and Marilyn Reed; grandchildren, Annette Orender, Rita Neumann, Richard Neumann, Lynette Cox, Stanley Bergen, Phillip Bergen, Gregory Bergen, Clinton Bergen, Steve Nelson, and Peter Nelson. She is also survived by her twenty- eight great- grandchildren, Larry Orender, Jennifer Orender, Jessica Orender, Lance Orender, Sarah Bergen, Melissa Bergen, Laura Bergen Thiessen, Matthew Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Tim Corkill, Aaron Gaboury, Robert Neumann, Jacob Bergen, Katie Bergen, Hillary Bergen, Maria Bergen, John Mark Bergen, Hannah Bergen, Gabrielle Bergen, Nicolas Bergen, Grant Nelson, Scott Nelson, Craig Nelson, Joseph Lahmeyer, Margaret Lahmeyer, Fiona Lahmeyer, Ellie Cox and Emma Cox, and two great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express thanks to the very thoughtful folks at Carrington House, formerly Kern Crest Manor and the nice people at California Care who assisted with her final care. In lieu of flowers, you may make a deductible donation in Adas name to the Mennonite Brethren Church in Shafter. Please specify that it is to be used by her grandson Phillip Bergen and his wife Carol, who are missionaries in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
