Jeff was born on July 17, 1957, in Bakersfield to Lewis L. Sandidge, M.D. and Diane Danley Sandidge. He graduated from Highland High School in 1975 and attended Bakersfield College before deciding to travel the world. He spent the next 2 years traveling in Israel, West Germany, Greece, Turkey, Pakistan, Nepal and India. After becoming very ill in India, he returned to Bakersfield to recuperate for a year, and then traveled the next 2 years through Central and South America. In 1981 he returned to Bakersfield to visit his family and to earn money enough to resume his travels. On October 22, 1981, Jeff was electrocuted while helping to erect an oil rig in Santa Maria. Left without oxygen for a critical period, Jeff remained in a persistent vegetative state for the next 24 years. He is survived by his mother, Diane Sandidge of Bakersfield; his father, Lewis Sandidge of Osprey, Florida; his brother, Stuart and his wife, Rosemary of Reno, NV; his sister, Kate Rosenlieb of Sacramento; his brother, Jonathan and wife, Rhonda McWilliams of Bakersfield; his nieces, Staci, Trisha and Lisa Sandidge of Reno, NV. The family wishes to extend thanks to Rosewood Retirement Community, Jeffs home for the past 15 years, and to Hoffman Hospice who eased Jeffs passage to a new and better life. We especially thank his special nurses, Jacqueline Bijou, Hazel Kennedy, Della Carter and Rose Johnson who cared for and loved Jeff so tenderly. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to the Jeff Sandidge Scholarship Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 1701 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.
