Darlene Avone Mitchell 
6/02/1935 - 7/29/2005 

A graveside service will be conducted for Darlene Avone Mitchell, age 70, at 
Shafter Memorial Park, Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Ed 
Boschman of the Laurelglen Bible Church will officiate at the service. 
Visitation will be held today from 2-8pm, at Peters Funeral Home Shafter. 
Darlene was born in Hillsboro, Kansas to Menno and Anna Schmidt. She came to 
Shafter in 1937, attending the local schools and graduated Shafter High School 
Class of 54. She married Doug Mitchell on March 16, 1957, in Shafter. Darlene 
worked as a bookkeeper and as a grocery store checker; she was also a 
homemaker, taking pride in decorating her home. Darlene was preceded in death 
by her parents, Menno and Anna Schmidt; and sister, Norma Cox. She is survived 
by her husband of 48 years, Doug; son, Dan and wife, Brenda of Santa Maria; 
daughters and son-in-laws, Dana and Harold Cornelius and Donna and Ken Bond 
all of Bakersfield; brothers, Eugene of Colorado, Ron of Long Beach and Dale 
Schmidt of Aromas, CA; sister, Verna Masella of Aromas, CA; 4 beautiful 
grandchildren, Nathan and Erica Mitchell and Kaylee and Kurtis Bond.
