Emma was born January 18, 1916, in Leader, Sask. Canada to Jacob and Rosina Schnaidt, but lived most of her younger life in Shafter, CA where many of her fellow Germans from Russia settled. She graduated with the Shafter High School Class of 34 where she met and married LeRoy L. Levi. Together they raised their three children, Gary, Robert and Susan while running a mom and pop grocery store/tavern in Bakersfield. Later, she married Joseph Hibbert whom she met while working at the Kern County Probation office from which she ultimately retired. Her retirement years were full of activities as a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital, volunteering where needed at the Heart Association and the Red Cross, serving as a librarian at Harris School; or her favorite pastime, babysitting. Her true loves were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to love and honor her are her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Berry; daughter-in-law, Sherry Levi; grandchildren, Gregory J. Levi, Kristen A. Levi Tremewan, and Michael J. Berry; and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life, Kate, Jacob, Kelsey and John Tremewan and James, Lauren and Gary Levi. Emma was preceded in death by her husbands, LeRoy L. Levi, and Joseph Hibbert and her two sons, Gary L. Levi and Robert D. Levi. Emma was much admired at Brookside where she always had a ready smile and enjoyed serving as the resident librarian or joining in a game of cards. She often remarked about how happy she was at Brookside and the many wonderful friends she had made. Keeping herself mentally and physically fit occupied much of her time and she considered a positive attitude, a smile, Bible study, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, and daily walks all part of her job to accomplish her goals. Being independent was important to her. To our wonderful Mom, Grandma, G.G. and friend, you were an inspiration to us and will be deeply missed.
