Bob is survived by his third times a charm wife of 35 years, Dana Seamans; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Ryan Webb and Kathryn Wright; son, Robert Short; son, Michael Brackett; three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews of his wife who knew and loved him as Uncle Bob. He was also stepfather to his second wifes three children. Bob was born September 7, 1928 in Eagle Rock, California and grew up in Wichita, Kansas. In his early teens he lived with his father in Carmel, California, then later with his mother in Los Angeles. Bob entered the U.S. Army and reached Rome, Italy in 1944. While in the Reserves he attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he learned to read, write and speak Czechoslovakian. During the Korean Conflict Bob was stationed in Germany. His military service was as a CIC Intelligence Analyst for a total of 12 years. Bob then lived in San Francisco, San Jose while attending college, then Aptos, California where he met and married his present wife, Dana. Bobs work experience was varied, from driving a cab during his college years on the G.I. Bill, as a V.P. of the American Jewelers Association, Pacific Plantronics, Southern Pacific Railroad from their Extra Board in Hollister, Watsonville and Redwood City, then San Francisco in the Rates & Tariffs Department, coming to Bakersfield as Chief Clerk then as a Traffic Officer in the Sales Department. After leaving the railroad, Bob worked for Pacific Freight Express and Heritage Railway Services, then as Secretary/Club Manager of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #93. Bobs hobbies were golf, table tennis, bridge with Master Duplicate points and playing dominoes. Bob had a broad range of knowledge, a great deal of it self-taught because he had an inquiring mind and read extensively; he could talk with anyone on any subject, always learning more. Although he suffered vascular dementia the last six years of his life, Bob maintained his sense of humor to the end, but succumbed to congestive heart failure and pneumonia at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital on May 13, 2005. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. For additional service or floral delivery information, please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.
