Sigler Services: Wed., Mar. 16, 11 a.m. Samuel D. Sigler was born in Shady Grove, Kentucky on September 6, 1924 and returned to the Lord on March 12, 2005, age age 80. His family moved to Bakersfield when Sam was eleven years old. He attended local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He bravely served his country aboard the submarine USS Narwhal, patrolling throughout the South Pacific from the Philippines to Australia. After he was honorably discharged in 1946, he met and married Mary Jean Pierson, his devoted wife of 59 years. They had two daughters, Dana Rae and Mary Janette. Dana preceded her father in death in 2002. Sam was employed by Witco Chemical Corp. for forty years. He served as Vice President for the Bakersfield members of the Fresno Chapter of Submarine Veterans of World War II. He was a dedicated and loyal member always eager to locate former shipmates. Over the years he also belonged to other organizations such as the VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose Lodge. Sam was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed golf and hunting. He shared many happy vacations at the family cabin above Lake Isabella. His greatest joy was becoming a grandfather. He always looked forward to spending fun times with his precious grandson and best buddy, Ian Graham. Sam is survived by his dear wife, Mary Jean; daughter, Mary Janette; son-in- law, George and grandson, Ian; sister, Sara Neuwirth of Bakersfield; brother, Larry Sigler of Hemet. Uncle Sam will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 15th from 4-8 p.m. at Mish Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 16th at 11:00 a.m., at the Mish Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. Sailor, Rest Your Oar!
