He served with the U. S. Navy at a very young age of sixteen. He loved his country so much to lie about his age to do his duty. Hector met his soul mate through the friendship of their fathers. He fell in love and married Dolores (Lola) Jaquez, having six children and 53 years together, renewing their vows at St. Josephs on their 50th wedding anniversary as they did originally on May 28, 1948. Showing their children and grandchildren a living example of a faithful and loving marriage. He learned the trade of plastering from his father, becoming the best in his field. He passed the talent on to his sons, with his son Andrew following in his footsteps. His profession took him all over the U.S. and abroad. Residing in Bakersfield and Las Vegas, NV on and off through the years. He worked on many of the original casinos and hotels in Las Vegas; some of which were several stories high. In his younger years he broke records for the mile run in school. A die-hard Dodger fan since the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hector coached little league baseball for his sons and neighborhood boys. He loved deer hunting and deep sea fishing. He should have owned stock in Budweiser, (Smile). Hector was a member of St. Christophers Catholic Church. Hector was affectionately known as Popeye the Sailorman to his children and Big Brother to many others. Sometimes tough but always loving and giving. We will miss that Mr. Roper smile and sense of humor. He was a wonderful father, grandpa, and great grandpa. On his journey to heaven that day, Hector passed Michael, his 20th grandchild's journey to birth. Betty Boop and Popeye forever! Hector was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Ruben Silvas.
