Williams Services: Wed., June 22, 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Very early on Sunday, June 19, 2005, God took into his arms and called home, this sweet, feisty and beautiful woman. She was our mother, our grandmother, but was affectionately known as Granny, by most that knew her. Bessie was born in Quentin, Oklahoma on April 14, 1914. Bessie Simpson was the second youngest of 10 children. In 1931, she married Emory Williams and in 1944, with their two children, moved to Santa Paula, CA, eventually settling in Bakersfield. After the untimely death of her husband in 1958, Bessie embarked upon her career. After more than 20 years in the health care field, she retired in 1983. Bessies life was continually active. She loved gardening and sewing and took particular pride in her hand-made quilts. As important as her hobbies were to her, it was more important that she share them. And so, she taught us with quiet patience and pride. Above all, her family was her life; from her two children, which she loved and worshiped unconditionally, to the sweet, special relationship she had with her great-great granddaughters, Sarah and Scarlett. Oh, how they made her laugh. From the hearts of those who remain, daughter, Bonnie Hutcheson of Bakersfield; son, Don Williams of Concord, CA; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren, we love and will forever miss her. Her journey was long. The lives she touched in her 91 years are countless and for those of us who loved her, we feel privileged to have been a part of her life.
