Gwynne was born in Los Angeles on September 20, 1925, raised in Porterville and in 1941 moved to Bakersfield. Gwynne loved music and during the Big Band era formed his own swing band, enjoying much popularity in the region. Following a successful career as owner of Slack and Son, a construction supply company, Gwynne and Christine retired to Shadow Hills in Santa Barbara. Gwynne's family and friends can attest to his passion and continued scrutiny of the World War II era, surprising many with the depth of his knowledge. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves behind daughters, Madelyn Curtis and Charmaine Glennon; grandchildren, Charmaine Jacobs, Alex Curtis, Meghan, Allison, Andrew and Juliet Glennon; great-grandchildren, Chaz, Emily, Hamilton and Curtis; stepmother, Charlotte Slack; sister, Diane McBeth; nieces, Marianne, Melanie and nephew Douglas. We will miss his graciousness, compassion and love more than words can express. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Welch- Ryce-Haider Chapel, 15 East Sola Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93191. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests a donation to The American Heart Association. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
