William "Bill" G. Smallwood, Jr.
July 31, 1929 - March 26, 2005 

Recitation of the Rosary, followed by a Celebration of The Mass of Christian 
Burial will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Friday, April 
1, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. for Bill Smallwood, Jr. 75, who passed away March 26, 
2005, in Bakersfield. Rev. Monsignor Michael Braun will be the celebrant and 
interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, River Blvd. Military Honors 
will be presented by the Associated Veterans of Kern County.

Bill Stoney was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 31, 1929. He attended 
college in Louisiana and later served in the United States Navy during the 
Korean War. Following his tour of duty, Bill became an active reservist for 
the United States Air Force. He began working for the phone company in 
Washington, D.C., and moved his family to Bakersfield in 1957. Bill retired 
from Pacific Bell in 1989.

Having raised his family here in Bakersfield, Bill was involved in numerous 
community and veteran services including the following: VFW 1468, 40/8, 
Commander of American Legion 682, Past Commander 15th District American 
Legion, and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Isabel Chabela Soto-Smallwood; 
daughters, Sonja Bennett and husband, Brent, Lydia Carter and husband, David; 
sons, Bill Smallwood and wife, Laurie and David Smallwood. He is also survived 
by 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from noon until 8:00 p.m.
