Bob was born November 14, 1909, in New Jersey and was raised in Australia. He graduated Washington State University with honors in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Mensa, the American Philatelic Society and a proud 32nd degree Mason. He began his career with K.K.A.P. Munning and Company in Japan before the second World War. He later worked for Douglas Aircraft and spent 24 years with the Rand Corporation on many top secret projects. He taught mathematics at Yale University and UCLA. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker and Director of a Savings and Loan. He was the inventor of the Milton Bradley game Square Mile and also bred the Bari Jean orchid. He designed and built one of his homes and was once written up as the Man with 1000 hobbies. He married the love of his life, Alice Beach Smith, and fathered four children. He is predeceased by Alice, two infant children, his son, Bobby Smith and his daughter, Bari Lokken. He also lost his beloved brother, Gordon several years ago. Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lydia Smith; his granddaughter and her husband, Susan and Chris Herring and their children, Blake, Andrea and Justin; his granddaughter and her husband, Laurie and Bryan Reese and their children, Drew, Allison, Natalie and Brooke; and his grandson and his wife, Chris and Meggan Lokken. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. A memorial will be held in November in Orange County. Details yet to be determined.
