Smith, 88, was born on June 10, 1917 to Sydney and Mabel Smith and raised in Walnut Creek, CA. He received his BA from U.C. Berkeley and MBA from Stanford in 1941. He worked for Stanford Research Institute form 1949 to 1980 where he instituted the Long Range Planning Service and served as European Director from 1961 to 1964. While working in Switzerland, he was instrumental in the founding of the American International School of Zurich. Robert worked world-wide, advising industries and governments on strategic, long-term economic planning. Robert always enjoyed traveling to new places and working with different cultures. When not working, Robert enjoyed relaxing with family at their cabin in West Point, CA. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Florence F. Smith and brother, Sydney W. Smith. He is survived by his son, Creighton and wife, Lynn of Bakersfield; son, Kirk and wife, Yvonne of Folsom, CA; stepson, Robert Agramonte and wife, Jessica of Half Moon Bay, CA; stepdaughter, Sue Rynerson and husband, Robert; and stepdaughter, Joan Domiter, all of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Alisa, Matthew, Bradley, Robby, David, Kevin, Jennifer, Will, Thomas, Edie, Bill and Jim. The family would like to thank the staffs at Rosewood Retirement Community, Agape In Home Care, Mercy Hospital and Hoffmann Hospice for their loving care and support.
