Following high school graduation she attended a womens business school in Iowa City. Dorothy then became the wife Oliver Wesley (Colonel) Moore his childhood and high school love. They had one child, Rowland Wesley (Rollie) Moore. The Moores lived in Hinton, West Virginia from 1938 until the end of WWII and moved to Bakersfield in July, 1946. Mrs. Moore was the Veterans Affairs Coordinator for Bakersfield College and Secretary of the Bakersfield Rotary Club until she became the Mayors Secretary. She was the Secretary to four Bakersfield Mayors. Toward the end of Mayor Gene Winers term Congressman Elect Bob Mathis asked her to be the Administrative Assistant for his Bakersfield Office. She held that position until Congressman Mathis retired. She was a proud member of P.E.O., Chapter MB and played several years in the Kern Philharmonic Symphony. Dorothy was a devoted Mom and visited her son, a career Naval Aviator, wife Dottie and family, wherever they were stationed in-country and around the world. She has three grandchildren; Sherri, Marlene, and Russell Alan; six great-grandchildren; and, one great- great- grandson. Mom was a skilled seamstress and also loved to knit and crochet. She enjoyed the scheduled activities at the Rosewood Retirement Community and participated regularly. Mom was blessed with many friends in Kern City and Rosewood; family friend and personal physician, Doctor Richard OReilly; the love of all the Rosewood care givers, and Hoffman Hospice staff; and, the love, faithfulness, and caring friendship of her roommate, Mrs. June Odom.
