Anderson Feb. 18, 1918 - Apr. 18, 2005 Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on April 18, 2005 in Bakersfield, CA, at the age of 87, after a long and full life. Born in San Francisco on February 18, 1918, she was the eldest child of Martin J. Stihl and Alicia Madden, and a third generation city resident. Claire spent most of the past 25 years living in Oakmont, a retirement community in Santa Rosa, CA, with her second husband, Harold Anderson, who preceded her in death. She was active in dancing, singing, golfing, swimming, traveling, and the arts and crafts. Claire was the loving and devoted wife of Raymond T. Henneberry for thirty-one years before his passing. She is survived by her children: Thomas Michael Henneberry and his wife, Jill, James Martin Henneberry, Virginia Marie Perry and her husband, James A. Warren, Patrick Henneberry and his wife, Patty, and nine grandchildren: Ian Henneberry, Melissa Henneberry, Samantha Henneberry, Nicholas Perry, Travis Henneberry, Joseph Perry, Trevor Henneberry, Jack Henneberry, and Cole Henneberry. Claire was the sister of June Casabonne, Jackie Illingsworth, (deceased), Maj. Gen. John T. Stihl (AF, Ret.), and Martin P. Stihl (deceased). She was raised in the Noe Valley district of San Francisco, where she attended both St. Pauls Elementary School and St. Pauls High School. Subsequently, she enrolled at St. Josephs Nursing School, and earned her R.N. After graduation, she worked at St. Josephs, Letterman, and Mt. Zion hospitals before her marriage. After rearing her four children, Claire returned to her profession, working at Shriners Hospital, and at Laguna Honda Nursing Home in San Francisco, as well as the San Mateo Medical Clinic. Mrs. Anderson retired after more than 20 years of nursing, and has been a member in long standing of the California Nursing Association. She has also been a nearly 70-year member of the St. Pauls Alumni Association (Class of 36). It is impossible to convey the love we felt for our wonderful mother. She touched our hearts deeply, and those who knew her join us in celebrating her towering spirit, heroic strength, generous heart, sweet nature, and unfailing sense of humor. Mom practiced love in the truest sense of the word: service to others. Her legacy will be her unconditional love for her children, her family, her friends, and those she served in her chosen profession. Mom, you were truly an inspiration to us all with your endless caring and giving, your courage in the face of the suffering and pain that you endured, and in your incredible will to live that never wavered until the very end. You handled it with grace and dignity. God bless you and be with you always. Private services will be held. Donations may be made in Claires memory to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital at 1-800-822-6344. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
