Gaye was born on December 10, 1913 in Exeter, to Marion Jack and Mamie Maxon Stiltz. She graduated from Exeter High School. In 1940 Gaye married the late Ralph Lewis Fanthus, a sales engineer for Kobe, Inc. and moved to Bakersfield in 1948. Gaye was active in the PTA, Bakersfield Mothers Singers, Bakersfield Americanism Center and was an active supporter of the Bakersfield Swim Club for which her daughters competed. She also assisted in the organization of various social activities for the American Petroleum Institute, division of Mechanical Engineers (AIME) of which her husband was an active member. Widowed in 1965, Gaye was remarried in 1968 to Herbert William G. Free, and moved to San Mateo, CA where she resided until moving to Three Rivers in 1995. Gaye is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Fanthus Vonderaye of Portland, OR and Yvette Fanthus Haworth of Three Rivers, CA; grand-daughter, Tanya Vonderaye; stepdaughters, Whilma Holcomb and Wendy Free Smith; stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Rogers, Candi Craven, Craig Nipps, Erik and Ryan Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and 4 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Noon on Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Evans-Miller Mortuary, 425 North Kaweah Ave, Exeter, CA with private burial at Exeter Cemetery on July 11, 2005.
