The family moved to Orange County in 1940, to Keene when they were 8, then to Hart Flat’s Clear Creek B Ranch. Jeannine was blessed to be born into a Godly home and at 14 came to know Christ as her savior. She attended Keene Elementary School and graduated with honors from Tehachapi High School in 1954. She earned her associates degree at Bakersfield Junior College, at the same time working for attorney Curtis Darling in Bakersfield before transferring to UC Berkeley. In 1960 she married Carl Thomas. They resided in Berkeley where she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from San Francisco State in 1961 before moving to Santa Barbara where their daughters, Carole and Annette, were born. Divorced in 1969, Jeannine and her daughters lived briefly with her twin and children in Richmond, then moved to Bakersfield where she was employed as a substitute teacher. In 1972 she accepted a position with South Lake Tahoe’s Social Services Department and worked there for 20 years in both child and adult protective services. She was well liked by co-workers and her clients responded to the gentleness, patience and respect with which she treated them with kinds words and tokens of appreciation. Jeannine had a great love of family; she also enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, camping and the ever-changing drama of South Lake Tahoe’s seasons. She taught her daughters the value of hard work, education and self-reliance. She also stressed the importance of knowing God and that having a close relationship with the Lord was necessary for true success in life. In the early 1990s, with failing health, Jeannine retired on medical disability and moved to Napa to assist her twin sister and to deal with her sister’s health limitations. When Janice died in 1999, Jeannine moved to Bakersfield. A year later she moved to Pollock Pines to be near her sister, Geleta Lucas. After a long struggle with crippling diabetes and congestive heart failure, Jeannine passed into eternal life with the Father in the early hours of New Year’s Eve. She was laid to rest in Napa. She will be greatly missed by loved ones and remembered for her devotion to family, her wonderful sense of humor and her great kindness and unselfish generosity to others. Jeannine was preceded in death by her father, Russell Stout and her twin sister, Janice Stout Moore. She is survived by her mother, Pansy Stout of Bakersfield; sisters, Geleta Lucas of Camino and Evelyn Childress of Bakersfield; daughters, Carole Zundel of Kuna, Idaho and Annette Cottman of Fairfield; grandchildren, Kyle Zundel; Andrew and Holly Cottman; and many nieces and nephews.
