He met his wife of 56 years in Wasco. After a short courtship of six weeks, they were married in Bakersfield on July 30, 1949. Odis told everyone he met, "Juanita chased me until she caught me." Over the next eight years they were blessed with two sons, Mitch and Doug. Odis worked for the next 27 years for Local 460, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and served as a devoted deacon at Rexland Acres Southern Baptist Church for several years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting as often as possible but his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gum or candy could always be found in his pockets for his greatest joys. In his heart they could do no wrong, they were the most special people in the world. As a man of great integrity, Odis loved God, family and friends and never met a stranger. His humbleness, honesty and willingness to help anyone in need set a shining example for all who knew and loved him. Odis led an extraordinary and wonderful life with his wife and best friend of 56 years, Juanita. He will be deeply missed by his son, Mitch and his wife Sherry; their children, Michelle, Brad and his wife Nicole, Brandi, and Summer; daughter-in-law, Gina; her children, Craig and his wife Alison, and Jenna; great-grand children; sister, Iva Hood; brother-in-law, Elvis Black; and many nieces, nephews and friends. As Odis entered the Kingdom of Heaven, he was greeted by his son Doug, parents Rube and Millie and sisters Fannie Black and Beulah Morris. A viewing was held on Jan. 15 with services on Jan. 16 at the Hillcrest Memorial Part and Mortuary. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased.
