California Ave., on Tuesday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Maria was born December 5, 1942, in Laton, California. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her family and friends on the evening of February 2, 2006, at Memorial Hospital. Maria is preceded in death by her son, Johnny Reyna; brother, Art Estrada; brother, Pete Estrada; and sister, Valentine Dalton. She was born to the late Pedro Pete Romero Estrada and Dora Pacheco. Maria was raised in Laton, California where she lived throughout her high school years. In 1963 Maria moved to Bakersfield where she called home until her final days. Maria loved sports and played ladies fast pitch softball for many years, where she excelled at the shortstop and 2nd base positions. Maria spent numerous years as a waitress and bartender where she made countless friends. On December 17, 1992, Maria married her longtime soul mate Octavio Torres. She spent her final years as a dispatcher in order to be close to Tavo while he worked. She enjoyed softball, reading, cooking, gardening and her grandchildren. Cherishing her memory is her beloved husband, Octavio Tavo Torres of Bakersfield. His parents are Gustavo and Valentina Torres also of Bakersfield. He has 6 sisters and 3 brothers. Also cherishing her memory are her son, Juan Louie Reyna and wife, Frances, daughter, Jaqueline Salas Porter and husband, Ted, daughter, Dora Lynn Bird and husband, Jimmy; daughter, Tina Boyar and husband, Robert, son, A.J. Salas and wife, Alice; daughter, Annette Salas and daughter, Rose Wendland. Marias siblings include sister, Delores Relyea, brother, Robert Estrada and wife, Alice; brother, Rudy Estrada and wife, Mary. Her grand-daughters include Cholee Marchel, Nichole Andriano, Melissa Arrenaviz, Natalie Miranda, April Garcia, Ilene Garcia, Katie Wendland and Kerry Wendland. Her grandsons include Jacob Reyna, J.J. Bird, Casey Bird, Robert Wendland and Johnny Reyna. Marias family would like to extend their love and gratitude to all who cared and prayed for her and appreciate your kindness, compassion and friendship. Words will never express how much shes loved and how much she will be missed. She will forever be in our hearts and in our minds. Casketbearers will be Johnny, Robert, Alex, J.J., Ted and Chris.
