Mike was born November 26, 1914, in Yuma, Arizona, to Miguel and Nieves Talamantez. His family moved to California around 1920 to find work in farm labor. Mike, the only son of seven children, lived and attended school in Visalia, and then settled in Delano around 1932, where he became a successful farm labor contractor. Mike relocated, first to Laton around 1945, and then to Fresno before returning to Delano in 1980. Mikes greatest enjoyment came from working and keeping his hands busy, so when he retired in his 60s, he turned to carpentry and doing handymans work well into his 80s. Mike Talamantez was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Nieves Talamantez; sisters, Maria, Marianna, Mickey, and Angie; and sons, Mike Jr., Mike II, and Michael Talamantez. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Talamantez; two sisters, Rosa Alba and Victoria Ortega of Delano; one son, Richard Talamantez of Fresno; daughters, Adeline Ortega of Santa Ana, Vera Reyes of Tehachapi, Olivia Castro of Bakersfield, Irma Delk of Henryetta, Oklahoma, JoAnn Jackson of Felton, and Sylvia Main of Sisters, Oregon. Mike had sixteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Gambro Dialysis, Odyssey Hospice Care, and Pastor Patrick Roberts for the prayers and care they gave to Mike. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 10 a.m. at North Kern Cemetery. There will be no mass. Father Beers of Guadalupe Catholic Church will be presiding at the graveside.
