Taylor March 3, 1921 - July 25, 2005 Derrell was born in Ozark, Arkansas. His parents were Vester and Mollie Taylor. They moved to the Central Valley in 1929. He attended McFarland, Columbine, and Tulare Schools. Derrell joined the Army in 1940 and fought in WWII in Europe. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant with decorations of the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service, Medal with Clasp, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was active in Earlimart-Delano communities being involved with the Earlimart Lions Club, American Legion, Delano Elks Lodge, Earlimart School District Board Member, Delano-Earlimart Co-Op Gin Board Member, Calcot Board Member, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Earlimart Methodist Church. He met the love of his life, Jo Taylor, during a visit back to Ozark after the war. The two were wed on Christmas Eve in 1945 after a short courtship. They began their life together in the Central Valley by farming. Derrell was a well known cotton farmer in Earlimart for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Iva Jo; his children, Richard (Betsy) Taylor, Gary (Dottie) Taylor, Deborah (Bryan) Roth and Barbara (Tony) Lindner; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, as well as three brothers, Ray, Ralph and Buss Taylor; and two sisters, Yvonne Hutcherson and Hazel Brown. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29th, from 4-8 p.m., at Delano Mortuary. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30th, at 10:00 a.m., at the Delano Mortuary Chapel, 707 Browning Rd., Delano, CA 93215.
