Tuculet 1942 - 2005 A Rosary for Ronald Green Tuculet, 62, will be recited at 6:30 p.m., June 2, 2005, and Mass at 9:00 a.m., June 3, 2005, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Ron passed away May 28, 2005. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, at River Blvd. Ron was born August 22, 1942 to Frank Tuculet and Nadene Jackson at Bakersfield, CA. The pioneer family of Mier/Noriega/Tuculet were the first families to arrive in Kern County from the town of Espelette a coastal province of Labourd, France. History of this family can be found in the Basques of Bakersfield page 20. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Nadine Jacobs Tuculet; Jeff Frank Tuculet and Marisa, William Bill Tuculet and Kathy and his dearest sister, Cheri (Tuculet) Diebel and Phil; and his mother, Nadene Jackson Tuculet/Howard and many nieces and nephews, cousins and godchildren; sister-in-law, Carol (Jacobs) ORand and husband, Kenneth ORand. Ron also has many special cousins from the Jackson side of the family. He was educated at local schools and graduated from North High School. He always enjoyed school he was a good student, he played in the Band at Standard Junior High and the orchestra at North High. However as he grew taller and bigger he decided to turn in his musical instruments for the rough and tumble game of football! He played on the varsity his junior and senior year he and the other North High Stars had a really good team in the fall of 1959! After high school Ron attended Bakersfield Junior College with a major in Agriculture. While carrying a full load of classes he still managed to work at a Gas Station. As fate would have it on the way home Saturday, April 15, 1961, in his newly purchased Austin Healy sports car, he was hit by a big truck on Pierce Road by the 99 Drive-In. This accident resulted in a permanent spinal cord injury. He would then continue on with his life and careers from a wheelchair! His first job was as a dispatcher for the Sheriffs Department. He worked in the basement at the old courts building. He was the voice of control #1. Only him and the log sheet kept track of where the deputies would code off and on. If they were too long on a call, he would be at the ready, to send a back up etc. When off duty from the above job, he was a full-time student at Fresno State College extension, where he earned his BA. Then he attended Cal State Bakersfield earning his teaching credential, majoring in Social Science with minors in English, Agriculture, History and Librarianship. Armed with all this education he was called for an interview at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. He was hired on the spot as a state teacher in charge of 6 (six) Libraries (3 on the minimum side and 3 on the medium side). These libraries were five hundred yards apart. He manually rolled his chair between libraries, carrying books and reports in his lap. Even with the physicality of the job and the seriousness of the population he served, he excelled. He applied for and attained grants for learning equipment and established programs that upgraded the needs of the population. He was such a get things done guy and was recognized by the State of California Library. He was asked by the governor to be a member of the newly formed California State Library Board, of course he accepted! After 10 (ten) years of good service at CCI Sacramento, he and Nadine moved back to Bakersfield (CCI hired 5 people to replace Ron Wow!) Back in Bakersfield, he was hired by Young, Woolridge whom at the time needed someone with Law and Library know how! The case was won and in big part due to the details being in good order! He was asked to be their administrator which he accepted. However, after about a year of service, he was offered a position from the Kern Law Enforcement Association (KLEA) to be their Administrator/General Manager. He accepted this position which took him to his last and longest career, 15 years with KLEA. This last career was filled with interesting and challenging events, political ups and downs and a new building for the association! All kinds of efforts were made to improve the pay status and working conditions of deputies to provide exceptional coverage for the community. After his retirement in January 2004, Ron started painting and never stopped. He has painted many beautiful and colorful scenes of Bakersfield and many scenes of local Basque events. He was a member of St. Francis Church where he served as a lecture, Bakersfield Basque Club, Bakersfield Art Association and East Hills Mall Gallery. Pallbearers will be Vance Herring, Doug Jacobs/Collier, Pete Tuculet, J.R. Rodriquez, David Jackson and Ronnie Beaty. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Tuculet, Kenneth ORand, Pete Zubiri, Albert Zubiri, David B. Jones, Phil Diebel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the St. Francis School Building Fund, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304.
