She passed away February 14, 2006, in Bakersfield. Her family moved to Reward, outside McKittrick, when she was about five years old where she attended school until she graduated from Taft High School. She continued to live most of her life in Kern County except for a period of 18 years when she resided in Atascadero, CA. During that time she sold Avon and made many friends in her door-to-door visits. When her husband retired, they returned to Bakersfield where she renewed old friendships, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Parker D. VanNeman, in 1999; her brother, Lewis Cullins and her parents, Frank and Arlie Cullins. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Barbara VanNeman of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Mike Perkins of Atascadero, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Joe Telford of Antioch, CA; son, Mark VanNeman of Bakersfield; and sister, Margaret Lyon of Chicago, Il; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer special thanks to the owner and staff of Gracious Lady, especially Vickie, who made Wilma's life so pleasant during some difficult times. We would also like to thank Dr. Vipul Dev and his staff for their efforts and compassion during this time. Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary on Friday, February 17th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
