She was born on July 8, 1931 in Livermore, California to Newton and Gertrude Arendt. Growing up in Pleasanton, California she was a 4H member, a Rainbow Girl, and an active member of the community. In 1951 she married Dean VanZant, and after two years in Washington, D.C., they returned to Bakersfield with the first of their three children. Jane was an active member of PTA and in the Girl Scouts while her children were growing up. She loved playing bridge, watching and going to Dodger games, going to the Santa Cruz beach with her family, attending the Summer Sunday concerts at Beale park, and pursuing her passion for photography. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Georgine Malloy. She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Dean; her children, daughter, Nancy and her husband, Pat Coyle; son, Bert and his wife, Sharon of Arroyo Grande; and daughter, Maryjane Mudryk; eight grandchildren, Gary, Scott, Melissa, Elizabeth VanZant, Marshall and Holly Coyle, Hope Youngblood and her husband, Dave, and Crystal Mudryk; niece, Leslie Price, her husband, Don of Roseville, CA; nephew, David Malloy and his wife, Mary of Redwood City, CA; her four great-grandchildren, Nathen Mudryk, Spencer Youngblood, Julie VanZant and Jessica VanZant were the new joys in her life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kern County Friends of the Library, Shriners Childrens Hospital, a favorite charity or scholarship. A private family graveside service will be at the Union Cemetery family plot Thursday morning, August 11, 2005, with a celebration of her life, at 11:30 a.m., in the Banquet Room at the Masonic Temple, 1920 18th Street.
