James Lee Wagoner

May 5, 1924 – Feb. 20, 2006

James Lee Wagoner, 81, passed away on Feb. 20, 2006 in a Bakersfield hospital.

James was born May 5, 1924 in Leiters Ford, Ind. to parents Byron and Ethel 
Wagoner. He served in the United States Navy as a motor machinist’s mate 
during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He married Shirley Mae Everett in 
Plymouth, Ind. on May 16, 1946. They moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1953. 
James was employed as a mechanic for many years at Century Oldsmobile in Van 
Nuys. He then went to work for the city of Los Angeles, retiring after 14 
years of service.

After retirement, James and his wife purchased a home in Tehachapi but 
traveled around the United States in their motor home, along with his beloved 
dog, Pepper. Six years later they returned to their home in Tehachapi. James 
loved attending the horse races at Santa Anita with his son, grandson and 
friends. He also had a special interest in woodcrafting.

James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Wagoner of Tehachapi; son, 
Steve J. Wagoner and his wife Patsy of Woodland Hills; daughters, Judith Ann 
Cruz and Kathleen Bailey, both of Santa Clarita and daughter Barbara Jo 
Arriaga and her husband Juan of Lancaster; grandchildren, Shawn Dawn, Dena, 
Joshua, Matthew, Christina an Alex; and great-grandchildren, D.J., Gared and 
Kyle. James requested no services. His ashes will be scattered at sea. 

Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements.
