Wallace III Aug. 8, 1941 - Nov. 10, 2005 Services: Fri., Nov. 18, 11:00 a.m. Luther Cornelius Wallace III, 64, our beloved, was called home after a short but valiant fight against cancer. A lifelong resident of California, Wallace was born in Bakersfield, the only child of Luther Wallace Jr. and Reola (Hill) Wallace (both deceased). He spent the majority of his young life in Oxnard CA, graduating from Oxnard High School in 1959. He was preceded in death by his beloved aunts Leona (Wallace) Jackson and Elzater (Wallace) McLaughlin of Oxnard and Alton (Hill) Nelson, Bakersfield. In 1974 he received a psychology degree from Cal State Northridge and in 2005 an MBA from University of Phoenix. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Oxnard, CA and as a youth was very active in the church. A member of the U.S. Army, in 1967 he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. On his return he became an active anti- war, anti-racism and human rights activist. Over the years he founded or was involved with many local, state and national human rights groups. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Christine [Tina] (Mattice) Wallace; son, James Matthew Wallace, Santa Cruz, CA; daughter, Cassandra Jane Wallace- James, Thousand Oaks, CA; granddaughter, Tanesha Cherie and grandsons, Tony LaBarron, Jr. and Luther Demetrius, IV Wallace-James; his special sister, Donella Dennis, Los Angeles, CA and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. His greatest dream and goal was achieved shortly before his death with the completion and publication of a book of short stories written by him titled, Our Color Our Kind: A Male Bedside Reader. At the time of his death he was at work on an original screenplay and new short stories. His special interests were people, music, reading, learning new things, all sports, and working with his family in his herb and vegetable garden. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17th, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Garcia Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will be held Friday, November 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1777 Stathem Blvd., Oxnard, CA.
