Ward Services: Fri., Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, October, 21, 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., for Seaman B. Ward who passed away October 16, 2005. Seaman was born September 21, 1913, on his familys farm in Carolan, Arkansas, a small community near Booneville, Arkansas. One of seven children, he was raised in Arkansas, but came to California in 1936 where he settled in Fillmore and worked for the Sunkist Growers Assn. While in Fillmore he married Mary Winthrow Ward, they were married for 18 years. They moved to Bakersfield in 1945 to be associated in business with his brother, Foster Ward and his wife, Genevieve, in the cabinet shop business and then as manager of Pockets Liquors & Sporting Goods/Hi-Pockets Bar for over 30 years. Seaman was preceded in death by his second wife, Irene Powell Ward; and his six siblings, Frank Ward, Thurl Ward, Bertie Foster, Foster Ward, Dick Ward and Carol Davis. Seaman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Carole Ward of Bakersfield; granddaughter, Michele Ward of Sacramento; granddaughter, Katie Koutsoulis and husband, Nasi of Stockton; and their children, Valerie, Dean and Sophia; brother-in-law, Albert Powell of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews, both in Arkansas and California; and his longtime friend and companion, Ruth Wieser. Seaman was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed many years of RV traveling with his many friends. Per his last wishes, there will not be any visitation and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
