Marjorie L. Thorne Weaver Services: Sat. Jan. 28, 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., for Marjorie L. Weaver who was born at Fort Bragg, California on June 1, 1924, to Fred and Eileen Mead. Marjorie grew up in Bakersfield and was an alumnus of one of the first graduating classes at East Bakersfield High School. She lived in Mojave and Lancaster for many years, returning to Bakersfield upon her retirement after 20 years of service with the U. S. Government at Edwards Air Force Base. She was preceded in death by her parents; younger brother, Jack; her son, Steven Thorne; and her husband, John Weaver. She was a devoted mother to, and is survived by, her loving children: Kenneth Thorne of El Dorado Hills, CA, Jean Crawford of Bakersfield, Russell Thorne of Thailand, and David Thorne of Bakersfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Victoria Martinez and husband Raymond, Eric Thorne, and Natalie Thorne all of Bakersfield and Vincent Thorne of Sacramento; and great-grandchildren Hope and Faith Martinez of Bakersfield. Marjorie had a love for gardening and, whenever possible, cultivated a productive vegetable garden. Because a big garden was too much for just her, she froze, canned and shared her bounty with family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed making rugs (braided or hooked) that she was proud to give away. The family would like to extend a special thanks to John and Yolanda Howard of Sacramento for the wonderful care afforded our mother during the past year and a half. Donations in her memory may be made to your favorite charity. No visitation is scheduled. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 1/26/2006.
