Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents, John Westlund and Marie Alina (Lena) Williams Westlund and her brother, John Harold Westlund. The elder Westlunds emigrated from Finland to the United States in the early part of the 20th Century. Evelyn was always extremely proud of her familys heritage. Evelyn was a native of Bakersfield and attended McKinley, Emerson, and Kern County Union High School, graduating in 1937. She was a member of California Scholarship Federation, played violin in the school orchestra, and was a business major at KCUHS. Evelyns work career was divided into two periods of time. While still in high school Dorothy Donahoe selected her to work in the business office at KCUHS. Following her high school graduation she continued to work for KCUHS until her marriage. Later, after her son was raised, she returned to work for the Kern High School District in the business office in the late 1960-s; then finished her career at Bakersfield College working in the business office/bookstore until her retirement in 1987. Evelyn married Richard Heber on June 5, 1949 and made their house a home. After their son, Steve, was born her activities centered on her family. She was one of the first volunteer parents at the newly formed cooperative preschool, Bakersfield Play Center. She also became a den mother for Steves Cub Scout group. When her grandchildren came along she treasured their time together in her kitchen. Always devoted to her Lutheran faith, Evelyn was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and volunteered to write the weekly church publicity for the newspaper. She also was active in the Kern High School District Faculty Wives, served on KCUHS Class of 1937 Reunion committees with her husband, belonged to Stockdale Country Club since 1977, and helped in the early development of Bakersfield Racquet Club. Throughout her adult life she managed the Westlund Court apartments, which had been built by her father. A wonderful homemaker and cook, Evelyn was a volunteer cook for many years at Guild House. During her retirement years she and her husband enjoyed trips in the United States as well as Europe, Asia, and Africa. They visited Evelyns family home in Vaasa, Finland, on their first trip abroad. Throughout her life she enjoyed social events with family and friends including her bridge group and later the cousins luncheons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Heber, E.G.
