1003754 - Mary Uvon Williams Posted: Monday March 22nd, 2004, 12:00 AM Last Updated: Sunday March 21st, 2004, 9:02 PM Mary Uvon Williams May 19, 1929 - March 20, 2004 Her earthly journey without the love of her life was short, so even though we mourn her passing, we rejoice that Mom is walking hand in hand with Dad in the presence of Jesus Christ. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 2:00 PM, at Shafter Cemetery, Santa Fe Way and Burbank, Shafter, California. Visitation is Monday, March 22 from 1:00pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, March 23, from 9am to 1:00pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter. Mary was born May 19, 1928 to George and Ethel Nored in Wichita Falls, Texas. Marys brother, Haskell and sisters, Auta and Dorece preceded her in death. Mary loved to dance and that is where she met her soul mate, Clark. They were married in 1947 in Delano, California where they raised 3 children. Mary was happy to move to Buttonwillow, California in 1963 when Clark was offered a job with two of his brothers. She did seasonal work in the fields and potato sheds, but most of her time was spent caring for and spoiling her husband and children. The family spent most vacations camping, where she loved to cook over open fire. Clark and Marys life together was a true love story. They did everything together until his death on January 30, 2004. They loved to go dancing and bowling. After the children were married they bought a boat and loved to go fishing and camping. Their later years were spent with friends at Balch Park. Mary could bake the best lemon and chocolate pies and often served dessert at the campsite. Her grandchildren love to go to grandmas house for biscuits and gravy. Her kitchen was the focal point of each visit. Mary had an amazing kindness about her and always welcomed everyone with open arms. Even as her illness progressed, she still enjoyed her visitors. She loved her church, family and being part of the clean team. Leaving to cherish her memory are her children Larry Williams and wife, Annette of Bakersfield, Joseph Williams and wife, Donna of Bakersfield and Regina Houchin and husband, Butch of Buttonwillow. She was extremely proud of her Grandchildren, Tanya, Candace and husband, Joey, Chris and wife, Jennifer, Carollee and husband, Aaron, Jeff and wife, Lisa, Doug, Justin, Andrew, Matt, Megan and Katie and her great-grandchildren, Kayla Haley and Gavin. Even though not officially grandchildren Mary loved Emily, Erin and Thelma and Dave is if they were. Her nieces, Etta May and Wanda, were such an important part of her life and she loved them dearly. The family takes comfort in knowing that Clark and Mary are together again. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Optimal Hospice for their support, friends who called and came by to visit and Moms new found friend Carmen who helped care for her. Each prayer offered for mom and the family, each card and call, provided a sense of comfort. Thank you Lord for Marys sweet spirit that will be part of our lives forever. At Marys wishes donations may be made to New Life Fellowship, P.O. Box 261, Buttonwillow or a charity of your choice. PETERS FUNERAL HOME
