Charles Chuck Williams was born October 16, 1920, in Wymore, Nebraska to the late Richard and Nellie Bly (McNown) Williams. He attended Wymore High School where he played on the football team, graduating in 1938. On March 8, 1939, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with distinction in the Pacific Theater as Machinist Mate Second Class on the U.S.S. Raleigh CL-7. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in action aboard the Raleigh at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. Following his September 4, 1945 discharge from the Navy at the close of World War II, Chuck returned to Wymore and worked as a brakeman for the Chicago, Burlington & Qunicy (CB&Q) Railroad. In 1946, he relocated to Southern California where he began a successful thirty-five year career as a truck driver for Mobil Oil Corporation. In December 1955, Chuck met the "love of his life" on a blind date. Chuck and Dorothy Ann Gimpel "Dody" were married on March 7, 1958 in Compton, California, and moved to Bakersfield, California in 1961. Chuck continued his career with Mobil Oil Corporation until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bakersfield for over forty years. He was also a Master Mason in good standing for sixty years as a member of Masonic Lodge No. 104 in Wymore, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Cathy Painter and her husband Chuck of Honolulu, HI; daughter Lori Williams of Rocklin, CA; three grandchildren, Jason Smith, and Jessica Towery and her husband Neil of Bakersfield, CA, and Olivia Williams of Rocklin, CA; two great-grandchildren, Tadden and Maverick Towery of Bakersfield, CA; two brothers John (Jack) Williams and his wife Kathy of Albion, NE, and Edwin Williams and his wife Ruthie of Wymore, NE; two sisters, Anne Shoff and her husband Galen, and Janey Rudder and her husband Jim all of Wymore, NE. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte (Williams) Smith on September 20, 1987; his parents, Richard and Nellie Williams; brother, Hugh Williams, and sister, Gladys Marshall. Chuck's family would like to thank Segunda Prieto Susie and her brother Teofico Prieto Nico of Folsom, CA for their compassionate and thoughtful care of Chuck during the past three years. The family would also like to express their appreciation for the loving support of his many friends during this difficult period. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, September 23, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 2671 Mt. Vernon Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93306. The Rev. Jack Estes, pastor, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for the National Parkinson Foundation. Gifts may be sent in memory of Charles R.
