She was the only child of Frank B. and Eloise (Arnot) Wilson, both natives of Licking, Missouri. In 1923 the family settled in Taft, California, Ruth attended the Tupman Grammar School while growing up on an oil lease in Elk Hills. She was a graduate of the 1940 class of Taft Union School and attended one year of Taft Junior College. In 1941 the family moved to Bakersfield, where Ruths first job was with Brays Real Estate on Chester Avenue. As a legal secretary for over 40 years, Ruth worked for many prominent attorneys, including Morris Chain, Joseph Wooldrige, and Curtis Darling. She ended her career doing estate and probate work. Ruth was active for many years in the Bakersfield Legal Secretaries Association, where she served as President. She also served in the Womans Club, Kern County Historical Society, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Royal Palms Residents Club. Ruth was married to Joseph V. (Joe) Brooks for 55 years. She is survived by Joe and their daughter Lynne Woodward and her husband Paul of Taft, and 3 grandchildren; Jill Langley and her husband Tim of Bakersfield, Eric Woodward of Taft, and Byron Woodward of Shafter. Ruths great- grandchildren are Sara, Ross, and Cameron Langley of Bakersfield, and Jlynn Willingham, Severyn Woodward, and Emilee Heptinstall of Taft. Ruth adored her little red-haired great-great-granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Langley of Bakersfield. Ruths family would like to thank Dr. N. Sarkies, Hoffman Hospice, and all the caregivers at Beverly Manor, Memorial Hospital, San Joaquin Hospital, and Health South. We would also like to give a special thank you to Marta Rogers for all her loving care and to all the friends at Lorenes Coffee Shop downtown.
