He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Curtis M. Winchester Sr. and May Clarke of Laytonville, CA; and his two stepsons, Wayne and Jay Monroe of Bakersfield. Jocko was born in Willits, CA, on March 24, 1935. He was raised in Laytonville, CA. At the age of 21, he joined the United States Air Force and served from January 14, 1957 to January 17, 1963. He was trained at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado as a Nuclear Weapons Mechanical Specialist. After his military service, he worked as a diesel and automotive mechanic until he retired in 1997. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed everything to do with WWII. He had many friends who often dropped by his shop for advice or repairs and spent hours shooting the breeze. He was especially close to Alvin White, Ron Shifflet and Kenneth Kay. Like clockwork, you could find Jocko at Clarks Restaurant enjoying his first cup of coffee. He loved racing and spent countless hours in the Pit at Bakersfield Speedway with son-in-law, David Miller #77 and grandson, Jeff Miller #3. Jocko is survived by his loving wife, Alice of 36 years; two stepdaughters, Elliene Rickert and husband, Robert and Judy Miller and husband, David; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 sister-in-laws and their families and 2 brothers-in-law and their families. He was a very loving, caring, giving man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In honor of his wishes, Jocko is being cremated at Mish in Oildale and interned at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield. There are no services pending.
