Whitaker Services: Wed., Aug. 17, 11:00 a.m. Charles Walter Whitaker, of Ft. Worth was born February 26, 1923 in Paoli, Oklahoma to Walter Stone and Maye (Dodd) Whitaker. He passed away August 11, 2005 in Ft. Worth, Texas at the age of 82 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Charles worked in the oil patch in the 1950s and 1960s following the oil boom from Texas to California. It was a transfer to Bakersfield, California where he found the place he wanted to settle down and call home. He became a successful owner of Whitaker Awning and was active in and volunteered many hours to the Shriners and Masonic Lodge, The Elks Club as well as the Lions Club. Charles loved sports, especially golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Maye Whitaker; 4 brothers, Coy, Otis, Ogle and Ray Whitaker. Surviving family include his 3 children, Yvonne Blevins of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wally and Laura Whitaker and Pam Ellis of Bakersfield, California; 1 sister, Freda Bechtel and her husband, George of Broken Arrow; 1 brother, Phillip Whitaker and his wife, Margie of Florida; grandchildren, Andy and Angie Werley, Alisha Werley, Katy Ellis and A. J. Whitaker; and 1 great-grandchild, Peyton Hining. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 11:00 am at Stufflebean Chapel officiated by Rev. Andrew Werley.
