Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Emma, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2005. She was born on August 20, 1907, in Buhler, Kansas. She and her husband, John moved to Shafter, California in 1944, where they farmed until 1990. In 1990, Emma and John moved to a retirement community in Reedley, CA. In November, 2003, Emma moved to El Cajon, CA to be near her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter and family. Emma was loved by all who knew her. She had amazing artistic talents. Emma loved the Lord and chose to serve him all of her days. She was an active church member in her younger years, and she continued to be an encourager and help to others until she went home to be with the Lord. Emma is survived by her daughter, and son-in-law, Barbara and Wilbur Nikkel of El Cajon; grandson, Mark and wife, Julie Nikkel and great-grandson, Maxwell Nikkel of Chicago, IL, and granddaughter, Lori and husband, Jeffery Hurtik and great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jonathan Hurtik of La Mesa, CA. Remembrances may be made to the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church in Shafter, CA, the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church or the Palm Village Retirement Community in Reedley, CA.
