Pastor Milt Cole and the Kern County Veterans Association will officiate. Carl was born September 23, 1918 in Mountainair, New Mexico and passed away in his home, in Bakersfield, on June 11, 2005. A positive, hopeful and courageous person throughout his life, he has been an inspiration and joy to all who knew him. He was honest, kind and very generous. We will always remember the twinkle in his eye, his wit and wisdom and wonderful anecdotes and stories. He served in the 65th Coast Artillery Battalion, 255th Anti-Aircraft Regiment of the United States Army during World War II, arriving in the Aleutian Island, Alaska while Japanese fires were still warm. He worked for Standard Oil, had his own service station and worked for independent operators as a knowledgeable and much-trusted mechanic. Dad could fix anything, and he rescued many grateful people throughout the years. He loved to fish and he knew where they were and when they were hungry. He bowled a 300 (perfect score) in a sanctioned tournament and bowled other perfect games in non-sanctioned bowling. He laughed and loved to tease. Everyone was his "favorite" and he was everyone's favorite. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ellen L. Williams, most of his nuclear family, many relatives and friends. Carl is survived by his son and best friend, David Williams, who cared for him with love and devotion during the last years of his life, and David's fiancée, Kristen, of Bakersfield. He is also survived by one of his greatest sources of pride and joy, his eldest son, Eugene Gene Williams, his wife, Gay, grandsons, Mark, Scott and his wife, Susan, and Greg; their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Colorado. Carl is also survived by his daughter Carlene, who was the apple of his eye ("she's a heck of a lot like her dad") and her husband, Bill Alexander of Pismo Beach, grandchildren Denice and Mike and his wife, Kim and great granddaughter Karly. His brother Forrest, many "favorite" nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and others, who loved him dearly and will remember him with a smile, also survive Carl. Visitation begins today (Tuesday) at 12:00 noon at Greenlawn Mortuary. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 6/14/2005 - 6/15/2005.
