Her children were by her side as she breathed her last breath on this earth. She died of glioblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Frances was born in Mayesville, South Carolina. She attended Barry College in Georgia, and taught school there until she married J. Lewis Grant II, in 1944. They served as missionaries to the Navajo Indians in both Gallup and Espanola, New Mexico. The family eventually moved to Bakersfield, CA, in 1961. Frances taught English in local schools, Lincoln Junior High School, Golden State Junior High, and Carden School. Frances taught Sunday School for over 40 years and Monday night Bible study in her home. These classes were the true love of her life. She touched the hearts and souls of many people throughout her community, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Frances is preceded in death by her father, Edward Lee Wingate; mother, Georgia Olive Wingate; husband, J. Lewis Grant II; sister, Lily Mae Morgan; brother-in-law, Quinn Morgan; and grandson, Jarrod L. Grant. She is survived by her children, son, Jordan L. Grant and fiancée, Diane Ronnenberg of Coos Bay, OR; son, Vernon R. Grant and wife, Berma of Yucaipa, CA; daughter, Georgia D. McRae and husband, Larry of Milwaukee, WS; son, F. Wingate Grant of Bakersfield, CA and daughter, Joy L. Wright and husband, Bill Wright Jr. of Bakersfield, CA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Viewing will be from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m., at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd., on Friday, May 20. Services will be at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, at Height Street Baptist Church, 1010 Height Street, with a graveside following at Greenlawn Mortuary.
