Reverend David Goh will officiate. Linda lived and was raised in Kernville, California, by her parents, John and Gail Wofford who preceded her in death. Linda attended and graduated from Kern Valley High School class of 1960. She enjoyed seeing old friends at the class reunions and barbecues. She lettered in tennis and basketball and was also a cheerleader. She often talked about the out of town road trips that the tennis team would take in the school station wagon. Linda liked the Kern River Valley but loved the mountains and recalled the times that she helped the cowboys drive the cattle from Kernville into the Kern Plateau a horse back trip that took sometimes three days, then in the fall of the year the cattle were driven down from the mountains to their winter range in Kernville. Linda met her husband, Gary, while working in the communications center of the Bakersfield Police Department. They met the last of April 1964 and were married on August 20, 1964, over forty years ago. Linda was a member of the Bakersfield Police Department communications center for nineteen years, a demanding job that she enjoyed. She recently received a plaque of Appreciation from Chief Bill Rector and his command staff which was a complete surprise to her. A major part of her life was her family and grandchildren who called her Nanny Sheetz; she would do anything for them and often did. She was proud of her Native American heritage and used to take the grandchildren to hunt Indian beads and arrow heads at her secret place. Linda made sure that her children received a Christian upbringing and education, they were the first to enroll in the Christian Life School on Olive Drive. Linda was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Michael and his wife, Tanya and their children, Cory, Jessica and Mike Jr.; daughter, Karen Sheetz of San Rafael; son, Kenneth and his wife, Lynn and their children, Nathan and Noah. Linda is also survived by her sister, Diane Maxine Vance of Kernville. We would like to especially thank Dr. H. Lin and his staff, Optimal Hospice, Chief Bill Rector and all the good cowboys and cattle ranchers of the Kern River Valley for their help over the years. At her request Lindas ashes will be spread on the family ranch. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice or the American Cancer Association.
