Mr. Lane's death at his home at 502 West Cameron street shortly before 11 o'clock came as a sudden shock to a large circle of friends. He had not been in the best of health for some months, but his condition was not considered serious until an attack of influenza which he suffered within the last week developed complications of an acute nature. O.P. Lane was born near Carthage, Illinois, May 7, 1848, and passed his boyhood there. In 1873 he and Miss Nancy J. Mott were united in marriage and a year later they came to California, settling first in San Joaquin county where there lived for four years. They moved then, traveling by team, to Washington territory and after a residence in that state for about four years they returned to the Mississippi valley, to Missouri and after one year they moved back to California, settling south of Hanford, living there for eighteen years, then coming to Hanford to make their home. Mr. Lane was a member of Company H, 118th Illinois Infantry during the civil war and fought throughout the three years it endured. He was a member of McPherson Post No. 51, G.A.R. of this city and a member of the Lemoore lodge of Masons. Besides the widow, Mrs. Nancy J. Lane, seven daughters and one son survive. The daughters are Mrs. W.S. Hand, Mrs. Antone Leoni and Mrs. Olive Keiffer of Hanford, Mrs. Harry Hammond of Wasco, Mrs. P.C.J. Derkum of Bakersfield, Mrs. Ralph Hammond of Los Angeles and Miss Willa Lane of Hanford, and the son is Thomas J. Lane of Tyron, Pennsylvania. The funeral, directed by the People's Undertaking Association, was held at 2 o'clock yesterday. The remains were viewed at the home and taken to the family plot in Hanford cemetery where the Masons of Welcome Lodge said the burial ritual. Many friends of Hanford Lodge No. 279, F. and A.M. of Hanford were present also, and Francis Cunningham filled the office of master during the burial service. M.C. Carter and W.H. Sanborn, of Lemoore were chaplain and marshal respectively. The pallbearers were members of McPherson Post No. 51 G.A.R. being W.H. Martin, Charls Adolph, C.H. Watson, J.F. Alvord, Samuel Westcott and C.M. Smith. *Note- 1. Ralph Hammond should be Ralph Hammonds. 2.
