L. Moore. The Man Who Founded That Town Has Passed Away. The announcement of the death of Lovern Lee Moore, founder of the town of Lemoore, at his home in that town yesterday [September 11], came this morning. He was a native of Ohio, and was born in April, 1822. His early life was spent in teaching and the study of medicine and law, and afterward engaged in the mercantile trade, finally embarking in the drug business. When the Rebellion broke out he was located in Ohio. He later moved to Michigan, and in 1874 moved to California, finally purchasing the southeast quarter of section 3, township 19, range 20 which in 1875 he subdivided into lots and started a town called La Tache. Settlers soon flocked in and changed the name of the place to Lemoore in honor of the original owner of the land where the town was planted. Deceased was married in 1845 to Miss Ellen Ralston a native of Pennsylvania. They reared two children, who are now residents of Lemoore – Emma A., wife of J [ulius] H. Fox, and Laura, wife of B[yron] K. Sweetland. Deceased was well known to all the early settlers of this valley. The funeral will take place Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 10 o’clock a.m.” END Additional Comments: “Hanford Daily Sentinel” (Hanford, California). September 12, 1898 (Monday).
