B. K. SWEETLAND The friends and relatives of Mrs. B. K. Sweetland were shocked to learn August 22 that she had died in Fresno while on her way home from Yosemite Valley, where she had gone about one month ago to visit her daughter [Mabel Boysen]. Mrs. Sweetland had been a well-known resident of Lemoore for many years, and was the daughter of Dr. [Lovern] Lee Moore, for whom the city was named. She had been in poor health for a number of years, and before going to the [Yosemite] valley suffered a severe illness. Mrs. Sweetland has been prominent in Lemoore society for many years and was known as a lady who was in accord with all good deeds or work for the uplifting of the community, and her death will be deeply felt among her many friends. B. K. Sweetland, the husband, Miss Eulavelle Sweetland of Lemoore, and Mrs. Boysen residing in Yosemite Valley the daughters, and Mrs. [?] H. Fox of Lemoore, the only sister of the deceased, are left to mourn her death. The funeral of Mrs. Sweetland was held Tuesday [August 27] afternoon from the family residence at Lemoore, and a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives paid their last respects to the memory of the beloved woman. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Macon and Rev. Eccles offered the prayer. Mrs. J. W. Orr of San Francisco read a beautiful poem, and a choir sang beautifully from favorite selections. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The Alpha club attended in a body and marched to the [Lemoore] cemetery with the long procession, where, at the grave the members of the club officiated in a burial service and decorated the grave with flowers. The pallbearers were W. V. Buckner, C. W. Barrett, Andy Buckner, E. Erlanger, E. Ammerman and F.W. Holser.” END Additional Comments: Hanford Weekly Sentinel [Hanford, Kings county, California]. August 29, 1907 (Thursday). Page 5, Column 2. Laura Moore was born in February 1851 in Ohio (1900 federal census.) She married Byron K. Sweetland. One of their daughters, Mabel, married Julius T. Boysen in Lemoore in 1900. They had a photography studio in Yosemite Valley until Mabel died in 1943.
