D., 1880) and post-graduate course at the N. Y. City Polyclinic. Prac. eight years at Edgefield, S. C.; came to Los Angeles in 1889, and there since. Mem. Los Angeles County Medical Society, Southern California District Medical Society, California State Medical Society and American Medical Assn.; also, Sons of the American Revolution. Senior Warden St. John's Episcopal church. Married, 1890, Ione Virginia Hill, of Chicago. Mrs. Cowles is prominent in church work; Pres. Women's Auxiliary Diocese of Los Angeles; also mem. leading women's clubs of Los Angeles and First Vice Pres. General Federation of Women's Clubs.
