University of Michigan 1923; married Carrie Borden Johnson of Yonkers, N. Y., April 17, 1895. Began as manager of his father's personal interests, 1890; planter in Louisiana, 1892-94; steamboat and fuel business, Michigan, 1894-96; came to Southern California and engaged in amalgamation of small light and power companies and development of water power for long distance transmission; President Edison Electric Co., 1901-09; President Southern California Edison Co., 1909-18; Chairman Board of Directors 1918-20; President and Chairman since 1920; President Landowners' Company, San Joaquin & Eastern R. R.
