Ingersoll (1908) REV. JAMES A. O'CALLAGHAN, the present assistant parish priest of Santa Monica, was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in the year 1880. At the age of thirteen he began his study of the classics at St. Brandon's Seminary, Killarney, whence he graduated four years afterward and entered the historic halls of St. Patrick's College, Carlow, to pursue the study of philosophy, theology and scripture, and in other respects fit himself for the sacred office of the priesthood. Leaving Carlow College in 1902 he came to the United States and entered St. Bernard's Seminary, Rochester, New York, from whence he was ordained priest at the hands of Right Reverend Bishop McQuaide, on June 6th, 1903, after which a brief visit was made to his home in Ireland. On his return Father O'Callaghan was appointed assistant pastor to Father Hawe, at Santa Monica, where both have since labored for thy glory of God and uplifting of humanity.
