The minutes of the Evangelical Association church of Los Angeles. Sketches of lives of certain Germans in Los Angeles County and of the city are given herein. Historical Society of Southern California, "Membership Roll of the Pioneers of Los Angeles County," in Annual Publications, V (1901), 208-214. Nativity, occupation, date of arrival in Los Angeles County, and date of arrival in state of California are given for each member. From this data can be determined the percentage of Germans in this particular group who had lived in California before coming to Los Angeles County. Los Angeles, Directories, 1875-1900, passim. Valuable for the lists of churches, newspapers, and clubs. The directories for the earlier years contain descriptive and historical information which has been of use. Herein are contained the reminiscences of this pioneer German for the years from 1853 to 1913. Coming to the city at an early time, this man gives interesting and valuable first-hand information of the early Germans, their occupations, and their social and industrial life. According to his own statement, the author obtained the information here given from personal visits as well as from other sources.
