Stenning, 20, and Charles Stenning, 18, both of 3626 Greenfield avenue, Palms, drowned in Westlake park lake Sunday night when their canoe crashed into the cement wall on the Seventh street side of the lake and capsized. The boys were canoeing at the West Seventh street end of the lake according to Miss Caroline Genolfi and Horace Friend, who witnessed the accident. Apparently too close to a wall on the edge of the lagoon, the canoe hit the abutment and turned over. Miss Genolfi in one boat and Oscar Wilson in another, summoned Policeman C. O. Peterson and Arthur Anderson, a boatman. With their aid, Harry’s body was recovered, and several minutes later, the body of Charles was found. Clock Stops Harry Stenning was employed by the California Bakery on Main street, Culver City, and a coincidence in connection with his tragic death was the fact that a clock purchased at the time of his employment having run without cessation since, stopped at 5:50 o'clock Sunday evening, almost the exact time at which the young man was drowned. Harry was an accomplished musician and was the director of the orchestra of the United Presbyterian church, which he had recently organized. He was an accomplished violinist and a student of the junior class of the Venice high school and was director of the orchestra of that institution. Charles Edward Stenning was a sophomore at the Venice high school, where he was specializing in art. He was exceedingly popular among his friends and fellow students and highly respected by his teachers. Besides their father and mother the boys leave two brothers, John S. Stenning, who resides on Cardiff avenue, and Arthur Stenning who lives with his parents; also a sister, Mrs. Nellie Pritchard of Corning avenue, Palms.
