Mitchell, aged 52, at the Montrose. Notice of funeral hereafter. The numerous friends of George H. Mitchell, M.D., will be shocked at the news of his sudden death Sunday morning at 9am at the Montrose. He had been a sufferer for nearly three months with muscular rheumatism but had worked indefatigably at his mission work in Vernon, and the many organizations with which he was connected. On the 8th inst. Dr. Mitchell gave a reading of one of Dr. Lord's lectures on Cleopatra at Parish Hall. On the 10th he delivered his last sermon at Barnabas Mission, Vernon; and on the evening of the 11th presided with his accustomed ease and grace as president of the New York Society. This was his last appearance, and today we mourn the death of an accomplished gentleman, as well as physician and soldier of high rank, as he was on Gen. Grant's staff for a time during the war. Dr. Mitchell was also a Mason. It is not yet decided what order will take charge of the funeral, or where. The remains are at Garrett & Neizke's undertaking parlors. [Note: George H. Mitchell, surgeon, 88th Pennsylvania. DAR records indicate that he also served in 81st Pennsylvania] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ca/losangeles/obits/gob2799mitchell.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/caobfiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
