The funeral of the late Luther J. Crowell this afternoon was attended by a large concourse of friends. The remains were escorted from the family residence on Center street to the Universalist Church by the Masons and John F. Godfrey Post G.A.R., both of which orders turned out in large numbers. Many beautiful floral tributes of esteem had been placed in the church, one of them, comprising simply the word “Comrade,” by the G.A.R., was the handsomest piece of its kind ever seen in Pasadena. Another beautiful tribute had been prepared by the W.R.C. and various others from the Masons and friends. The church services consisted, beside the music, of an address by Rev. Mr. Phelps, who spoke of the deceased soldier’s military record, by Rev. Dr. Conger, who confined his remarks chiefly to his connection with the Masonic order, and a prayer by Rev. Florence E. Kollock. The remains were conveyed to Mountain View Cemetery, where the interment was conducted according to the impressive Masonic ritual to which was added the pretty bower ceremonial by the Order of the Eastern Star. The pall-bearers were all Masons, two of whom were also G.A.R. comrades: P. P. Bonham, A.M. Bettes, I.N. Sears, J.R. Slater, M.C. Hester and George Greene.
