In 1930, while visiting the family of Jason Joy, he suffered a paralytic stroke, which confined him in bed for six patient years of suffering. In letters to the writer, dictated to others, he always praised the devoted and tireless service rendered in caring for him by Colonel and Mrs. Joy. Doctor Joy's ministerial career ran the gamut of service of an intinerant Methodist minister. He served both country and city churches, as well as two terms as District Superintendent.
