K. Sweetland, Pioneer, Passes Byron K. Sweetland, a pioneer of the Lemoore community, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Orrie Wonder, in Pasadena, Friday, March 15. His death followed an illness of about a week's duration. He was 81 years of age. Deceased came to the Lemoore locality in 1874, and for many years was identified with the settlement and upbuilding of that community. For 22 years he was a member of the firm of Fox & Sweetland, the principal merchandising firm of Lemoore at that time. More than ten years ago he disposed of his interests to William Scally and retired from active business life. His wife [Laura], who died many years ago, was the daughter of Dr. Lee Moore, another pioneer, for whom the city of Lemoore was named. In addition to the sister in Pasadena, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Julius Boysen of Yosemite Valley, and Mrs. Nat[haniel] G[reene] Guiberson, of Dallas, Texas. The remains of the pioneer will be shipped to the Phipps Mortuary at Lemoore, where the funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon [March 19] at 2 o'clock. Cremation will follow. The obsequies will be in charge of Welcome Lodge, No. 255, F. and A. M. of Lemoore, of which the deceased was a member." END Additional Comments: Hanford Daily Sentinel (Hanford, California). March 16, 1929 (Saturday). Byron and Laura Sweetland's daughter, Mabel, married Julius T. Boysen at their home in Lemoore in 1900. The Boysen's operated the "Boysen Studio" in Yosemite Valley from 1898 until Mrs. Boysen died in Yosemite Valley in 1943.
